PHOTOGRAPHY
A NHS TEACHING HOSPITAL
Here is a small selection of photographs made at a large London teaching hospital in the 1980s. I was one of a team of photographers retained to make all kinds of photographs required by the staff. Sometimes it would be pictures for teaching purposes; other times for publicity. My work took me into the Special Care Baby Unit, the Infectious Disease Unit, the Mortuary, the School of Dentistry, operating theatres and even the Animal Experimental Unit that became a target of protest by the Animal Rights Movement. The subject matter varied week by week and was a good training ground for a documentary photographer. It is interesting to note that some of the pictures I have taken would probably be off limits today. I hope you will get a feel for some of the important work done by medical staff.
