Work is one of those things that we have probably all done or will do at some point. It pays the bill and keeps us occupied. Some believe it is important in maintaining our wellbeing because it provides a purpose and can prevent us being isolated. The workplace offers opportunities to belong and a social network. It can provide intrinsic benefits for those who love their work. Many will have prepared for their work role through education and training such as doctors and engineers. Others may have drifted or fallen into it for one reason or another. Some may hate their job and long to get out or retire. Over my career, I have photographed people at work in a very wide range of roles. As I have been scanning and organising my negatives, I realised that although the pictures may well have been for other assignments and projects, together they have a socio/historical interest. Therefore, I have gathered them all together and also decided to restart it as a project by seeking out a photographing people in their work roles.
